Classic Transformers LogoAutobots, Transform and Roll Out!
Riding bus 24 (Mr. Justice's route) home to Sherwood drive everyday, this 12 year old boy, only recently graduated from "Jimmy" to "Jim" couldn't wait to get home to watch The Transformers. Back in 1984, the new cartoon series about robots from outerspace that could transorm from human-shaped arms/legs/head action figures into vehicles of all shapes and sizes was about as cool as it got! In a classic fight for good over evil, the Autobots and Decepticons battled it out every day.

Optimus PrimeFrom the comfort of my 1970's circa drapes, shag carpet, and horrible looking couch, I watched Optimus Prime, leader of the the Autobots, take the shape of a big tractor trailer rig as he'd say, Autobots, transform and let's roll out!. There were VW bugs, sports cars, military transport, and lots more. Their arch nemesis, Megatron, pretty much the baddest mofo around was the leader of the Decepticons. These guys took the shapes of helicopters, military jets, and other heavy duty fighting machines. There was always a huge battle, with the bad guys always destroying buildings and people while the Autobots did their best to prevent that from happening. As always, the Autobots prevailed. Sometimes we'd learn a valuable lesson or moral.

Haley and I went to see it last night with some friends and I was IMPRESSED! They included so much from the original story line while integrating the real actors in with CGI robots. The effects were spectacular, if sometimes a little over done. They even incorporated some of the original cartoon sound effects to my delight. I was on the edge of my seat secretly and quietly yelling to the screen "Go get him, Optimus!". I really enjoyed it and Haley now shares a piece of my childhood. If you get a chance, take your kid... or just go by yourself. You know you want to!
