One of the great benefits of having Haley for the summer is the time we spend together at church. This year, FPC Vacation Bible School 2008 theme was Rainforest Adventure from July 20-24. Our teachers and volunteers decorated the fellowship hall and adjacent classrooms in a jungle and rainforest theme. From ages of 2 years up to finishing 4th grade, the kids explored passages from the Bible mixed with pictures, games, and activities based around the rainforest.

Each evening we met for a church supper complete with homemade chocolate chips cookies, lemonade, and all our favorites. Then the kids would move off to their age groups to begin their adventures. Many parents stayed to help or go to an adult class led by our pastor Drew. The kids would then get to learn about one important scripture for the night while making arts and crafts, singing songs, learning sign language, laughing, giggling. squealing, and having a great time!

After spending time in a particular classroom, the kids switched to another classroom for a different activity and lesson. At the end of the evening, everyone congregated back in the main fellowship hall to sing the song for the day plus the one main theme with sign language included! After a closing prayer, our little rainforest adventurers headed home with their parents.

I love VBS. Reminds me of all the summers going to our shared programs at University Presbyterian, First Presbyterian, and the Episcopal churches in Ruston as a kid. It's so much fun and I think it's very important for the kids and parents alike. Thank you very much to all the parents, teachers, and volunteers who put this year's program together. Can't wait till next year!
